- What is Tui Na? -
In Daoist Medicine, Tui Na is more than bodywork. It is cultivation in motion, where the practitioner works with the living currents of qi that flow through the body and spirit. Each touch is guided by intention and breath, allowing qi to be transmitted and directed into acupoints, meridians, and organs to restore harmony. In this tradition, acupoints are not abstract points on a chart but living gates where energy and spirit converge.

Meridians are felt and seen as luminous pathways, and touch becomes a way of entering into the body’s energetic landscape. For the practitioner, every session is also cultivation, refining presence, strengthening qi, and continuing the Daoist path. Known in China as Tui Na, meaning “push and grasp,” this time-honored therapy has been practiced for over two millennia, first within Daoist medicine as a cultivation-based healing art, long before it was standardized as part of the modern TCM approach.
Through specialized techniques applied to the body’s meridians, channels, and acupoints, Tui Na works to restore healthy function, ease muscular and joint restrictions, and encourage the smooth flow of qi and circulation. The treatment addresses both the root cause and immediate symptoms, making it beneficial for musculoskeletal pain, tension, and a variety of internal imbalances affecting the organs, nervous system, heart, and digestion. Beyond symptom relief, regular sessions support preventative wellness by calming the nervous system, improving mobility, enhancing sleep quality, and promoting overall vitality.
